Welcome to the official home page of Clay County, Georgia. We are located on the banks of Lake Walter F. George and the Chattahoochee River approximately 70 miles south of Columbus, Georgia. Our county seat, Fort Gaines, is located at the site of the Walter F. George Dam and Lock.
Our traditional southern charm has attracted many retirees to our area. We are strategically located within 20 to 45 minutes of both Georgia and Alabama major hospitals, doctors, shopping malls, restaurants and military facilities including Fort Benning, GA and Fort Rucker, AL.
Clay County welcomes business and industry to our area. We look forward to assisting your business and family in locating to Clay County through the Clay County Economic Development Council, Clay County Chamber of Commerce and the Development Authority of Clay County.
